# Onboarding Pack Business Model

**Context:** Clarification of RateRight's role in the payment flow

## The Problem Michael Solved

Labour hire companies have a hidden advantage: **zero admin for contractors.**

When a contractor uses labour hire:
1. They get a worker sent to site
2. They never onboard that worker into their payroll system
3. They just pay the labour hire company one invoice
4. Labour hire handles all worker admin (TFN, super, bank details, tax)

When a contractor hires directly (what RateRight enables):
1. They find the worker through our platform
2. They MUST add that worker to their payroll/accounting system
3. They need all the onboarding details (TFN, super, bank, etc.)
4. This is 30+ minutes of admin per worker

## The Solution: Onboarding Pack

RateRight provides a **ready-to-download onboarding pack** for every matched worker. Contractor gets all the details they need to add the worker to their system in 5 minutes instead of 30.

**What goes in the pack:**
- Full legal name
- Date of birth
- Address
- Phone + email
- TFN (for PAYG withholding)
- Superannuation details (fund, member number, USI)
- Bank details (BSB + account)
- Emergency contact
- White card number (contractor verifies at induction)
- Trade tickets/licenses (optional, trust signal)

## Key Business Model Insight

**RateRight is NOT a payment processor.** We don't handle money between contractor and worker. We're a matching platform + admin reducer.

**The bet:** Contractors will accept the admin burden of direct hiring if:
1. They can see who they're getting before hiring (quality signal)
2. The admin is minimized to a single downloadable pack
3. The total cost is lower than labour hire markup
4. They can build a roster of good workers they can rehire

## Two-Stage Worker Signup (Recommended)

**Stage 1 — Fast Signup (Matching):**
- Name, phone, email
- Trade(s) + experience
- Location/suburb
- → Worker can be matched immediately

**Stage 2 — Complete Profile (Pre-Job):**
- TFN, super, bank details
- White card + tickets
- → Triggered when worker is matched to an actual job
- → Onboarding pack generated and sent to contractor after payment

This reduces signup friction while ensuring the contractor gets everything they need.

## Why This Matters

This positions RateRight as the bridge between:
- **Job boards** (find workers, no admin help, high churn)
- **Labour hire** (easy admin, expensive, no choice of worker)

We give contractors the best of both: direct hiring (cheaper, build relationships) with labour-hire-level convenience (minimal admin).

## Competitive Advantage

None of the existing solutions (Hipage, Indeed, Gumtree, labour hire) provide a streamlined onboarding pack. This is a genuine differentiator.

## Open Questions

1. When does the worker provide sensitive details (TFN, bank)? At match time or on first job?
2. How do we verify white cards? Or do we trust the contractor's induction process?
3. Should we integrate with accounting software (Xero, MYOB) to auto-add workers?
4. Legal liability — are we responsible if details are wrong, or is this just a convenience feature?

## Next Steps

- Spec out the onboarding pack generation flow
- Design the two-stage signup UX
- Determine what verification (if any) we do on uploaded documents
- Legal review of data handling for sensitive info (TFN, bank details)
